~/Library/Application Support/Cursor: what can you delete?
Do not delete the whole folder. The cache folders inside it are safe to remove, but the User folder holds your Cursor settings and the local storage where your chat history is kept.
Where it is
~/Library/Application Support/CursorWhat it is
Cursor is built on VS Code and lays out its data the same way, in ~/Library/Application Support/Cursor. The User folder contains settings.json, keybindings.json, snippets, and the globalStorage and workspaceStorage folders.
Those two storage folders matter more in Cursor than in VS Code, because Cursor keeps your AI chats and their context in databases inside them. Deleting them removes that history from this Mac.
Cache, CachedExtensionVSIXs, Code Cache and logs are disposable and are created again. Extensions and other tool data live separately in ~/.cursor.
How big it gets
Usually from a few hundred MB to several GB, and more after long use, because chat history and workspace storage are never trimmed automatically.
How to clear it by hand
- Run the command below to see which subfolders are largest. It only reads sizes.
- Quit Cursor completely.
- Move Cache, CachedExtensionVSIXs, Code Cache and logs to the Trash. Cursor creates them again.
- If User/workspaceStorage is large, remove only the folders for projects you no longer work on. Each one holds that project's saved state and chats.
- Leave User/globalStorage and the settings files alone unless you want to reset Cursor.
du -sh ~/Library/Application\ Support/Cursor/* | sort -hr | head -15What happens afterwards
Cursor rebuilds its caches on the next launch. If you removed workspace storage, those projects open with a clean state and their earlier chats are gone. Your code is not stored here and is not affected.
How Diskzy handles it
Diskzy lists Electron app caches such as Cursor's in the Clean up tab, ticked unless the app is open. The disk map shows the size of each subfolder, so you can see what the storage folders take.
