How to completely uninstall Malwarebytes for Mac on Mac

Dragging Malwarebytes to the Trash removes the app itself, but its support files, caches and settings stay on your Mac. Here is where they are and how to remove all of them.

Good to know

Malwarebytes installs background protection services with system privileges, so it should be removed with its own uninstaller: open Malwarebytes and choose Help > Uninstall Malwarebytes from the menu bar. Dragging the app to the Trash leaves those services in place and removes your access to the uninstall command.

Before you start

Use Help > Uninstall Malwarebytes first and enter your password when asked. If the app is already gone, Malwarebytes' support site says to reinstall it and then uninstall from the Help menu.

Bundle identifier: com.malwarebytes.mbam.frontend.application

Remove Malwarebytes by hand

  1. Quit Malwarebytes. If it has a menu bar icon or runs in the background, quit that too.
  2. Open the Applications folder and drag Malwarebytes to the Trash.
  3. In Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder (Shift-Command-G), paste each location below, and move what you find to the Trash. Not every location exists for every version.
  4. Empty the Trash, then restart your Mac so nothing from Malwarebytes is left running.

Where Malwarebytes keeps its files

Other places Malwarebytes uses

Items under /Library need your administrator password to remove.

The quick way

Diskzy finds Malwarebytes and the files listed here, shows the size of each one, and moves them to the Trash together. Files that another app also uses are left alone.
