How to completely uninstall Microsoft OneDrive on Mac

Dragging OneDrive to the Trash removes the app itself, but its support files, caches and settings stay on your Mac. Here is where they are and how to remove all of them.

Good to know

OneDrive leaves Finder and File Provider extensions, updater launch agents and daemons in /Library, and several containers. These paths are for the version downloaded from Microsoft. The Mac App Store version uses the identifier com.microsoft.OneDrive-mac.

Before you start

Wait until OneDrive shows that syncing is complete, then quit it. Your OneDrive folder (on current macOS under ~/Library/CloudStorage) is your own data and is not part of the app. Files marked as online-only are not stored on this Mac, so make sure anything you need is either downloaded or safely on onedrive.com before you remove the folder yourself.

Bundle identifier: com.microsoft.OneDrive

Remove OneDrive by hand

  1. Quit OneDrive. If it has a menu bar icon or runs in the background, quit that too.
  2. Open the Applications folder and drag OneDrive to the Trash.
  3. In Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder (Shift-Command-G), paste each location below, and move what you find to the Trash. Not every location exists for every version.
  4. Empty the Trash, then restart your Mac so nothing from OneDrive is left running.

Where OneDrive keeps its files

Other places OneDrive uses

Items under /Library need your administrator password to remove.

The quick way

Diskzy finds OneDrive and the files listed here, shows the size of each one, and moves them to the Trash together. Files that another app also uses are left alone.
