How to completely uninstall CleanMyMac on Mac

Dragging CleanMyMac to the Trash removes the app itself, but its support files, caches and settings stay on your Mac. Here is where they are and how to remove all of them.

Good to know

CleanMyMac installs a privileged helper and a launch daemon in /Library, plus a menu bar app and an updater agent, in addition to its support files. These paths are for CleanMyMac 5 downloaded from MacPaw. The Mac App Store and Setapp editions use different identifiers.

Before you start

MacPaw's documented method is to uninstall CleanMyMac with its own Applications module (Manage My Applications, then Uninstaller). Quit the CleanMyMac menu bar app first if you remove it another way. Uninstalling does not cancel a subscription.

Bundle identifier: com.macpaw.CleanMyMac5

Remove CleanMyMac by hand

  1. Quit CleanMyMac. If it has a menu bar icon or runs in the background, quit that too.
  2. Open the Applications folder and drag CleanMyMac to the Trash.
  3. In Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder (Shift-Command-G), paste each location below, and move what you find to the Trash. Not every location exists for every version.
  4. Empty the Trash, then restart your Mac so nothing from CleanMyMac is left running.

Other places CleanMyMac uses

Items under /Library need your administrator password to remove.

The quick way

Diskzy finds CleanMyMac and the files listed here, shows the size of each one, and moves them to the Trash together. Files that another app also uses are left alone.
