How to completely uninstall MacKeeper on Mac

Dragging MacKeeper to the Trash removes the app itself, but its support files, caches and settings stay on your Mac. Here is where they are and how to remove all of them.

Good to know

MacKeeper runs a background agent alongside the main app, so its support folders, caches and a launch agent in your user Library stay behind after the app is gone. The vendor's own uninstall guide lists these same locations.

Before you start

Quit MacKeeper with Command and Q or from its menu in the menu bar, not from its Dashboard, then move it to the Trash and confirm the prompts. If you enabled its Safari extension or its real-time protection system extension, MacKeeper's help centre has separate steps for removing those. A subscription is cancelled separately from uninstalling.

Remove MacKeeper by hand

  1. Quit MacKeeper. If it has a menu bar icon or runs in the background, quit that too.
  2. Open the Applications folder and drag MacKeeper to the Trash.
  3. In Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder (Shift-Command-G), paste each location below, and move what you find to the Trash. Not every location exists for every version.
  4. Empty the Trash, then restart your Mac so nothing from MacKeeper is left running.

The quick way

Diskzy finds MacKeeper and the files listed here, shows the size of each one, and moves them to the Trash together. Files that another app also uses are left alone.
