How to completely uninstall 1Password on Mac

Dragging 1Password to the Trash removes the app itself, but its support files, caches and settings stay on your Mac. Here is where they are and how to remove all of them.

Good to know

1Password keeps its settings and an encrypted local copy of your vaults in its own folders in your user Library. Your items are also stored in your 1Password account, so removing the app does not delete them.

Before you start

Make sure you can sign in again before you uninstall. You need your account password and your Secret Key, which is in your Emergency Kit, or another device that is still signed in. Remove the 1Password extension from your browsers separately. Uninstalling does not cancel a subscription.

Bundle identifier: com.1password.1password

Remove 1Password by hand

  1. Quit 1Password. If it has a menu bar icon or runs in the background, quit that too.
  2. Open the Applications folder and drag 1Password to the Trash.
  3. In Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder (Shift-Command-G), paste each location below, and move what you find to the Trash. Not every location exists for every version.
  4. Empty the Trash, then restart your Mac so nothing from 1Password is left running.

Where 1Password keeps its files

The quick way

Diskzy finds 1Password and the files listed here, shows the size of each one, and moves them to the Trash together. Files that another app also uses are left alone.
