How to completely uninstall Slack on Mac

Dragging Slack to the Trash removes the app itself, but its support files, caches and settings stay on your Mac. Here is where they are and how to remove all of them.

Good to know

Slack is an Electron app, so most of what it leaves is cache and local workspace data in ~/Library/Application Support/Slack. The Mac App Store version keeps its data in ~/Library/Containers/com.tinyspeck.slackmacgap instead.

Before you start

Quit Slack. Your messages and files live on Slack's servers, so nothing needs exporting, but you will sign in to each workspace again if you reinstall.

Bundle identifier: com.tinyspeck.slackmacgap

Remove Slack by hand

  1. Quit Slack. If it has a menu bar icon or runs in the background, quit that too.
  2. Open the Applications folder and drag Slack to the Trash.
  3. In Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder (Shift-Command-G), paste each location below, and move what you find to the Trash. Not every location exists for every version.
  4. Empty the Trash, then restart your Mac so nothing from Slack is left running.

The quick way

Diskzy finds Slack and the files listed here, shows the size of each one, and moves them to the Trash together. Files that another app also uses are left alone.
