How to completely uninstall Microsoft Teams on Mac

Dragging Teams to the Trash removes the app itself, but its support files, caches and settings stay on your Mac. Here is where they are and how to remove all of them.

Good to know

The current Teams app is sandboxed, so most of its cache and data is in ~/Library/Containers/com.microsoft.teams2 and a Microsoft group container. It also installs an updater daemon in /Library, and older classic Teams left data in ~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Teams.

Before you start

Quit Teams. Chats and files are stored in your Microsoft account, so there is nothing to export. Microsoft AutoUpdate is shared with other Microsoft apps, so leave it if you use Office.

Bundle identifier: com.microsoft.teams2

Remove Teams by hand

  1. Quit Teams. If it has a menu bar icon or runs in the background, quit that too.
  2. Open the Applications folder and drag Teams to the Trash.
  3. In Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder (Shift-Command-G), paste each location below, and move what you find to the Trash. Not every location exists for every version.
  4. Empty the Trash, then restart your Mac so nothing from Teams is left running.

Where Teams keeps its files

Other places Teams uses

Items under /Library need your administrator password to remove.

The quick way

Diskzy finds Teams and the files listed here, shows the size of each one, and moves them to the Trash together. Files that another app also uses are left alone.
