How to completely uninstall Mozilla Firefox on Mac

Dragging Firefox to the Trash removes the app itself, but its support files, caches and settings stay on your Mac. Here is where they are and how to remove all of them.

Good to know

Your profiles (bookmarks, history, saved logins, extensions) are in ~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles, and the page cache is in ~/Library/Caches/Firefox. Removing the profiles folder removes all of that browsing data.

Before you start

Sign in to a Mozilla account and sync, or export bookmarks and saved logins, or copy the Profiles folder somewhere safe if you want to keep your data.

Bundle identifier: org.mozilla.firefox

Remove Firefox by hand

  1. Quit Firefox. If it has a menu bar icon or runs in the background, quit that too.
  2. Open the Applications folder and drag Firefox to the Trash.
  3. In Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder (Shift-Command-G), paste each location below, and move what you find to the Trash. Not every location exists for every version.
  4. Empty the Trash, then restart your Mac so nothing from Firefox is left running.

The quick way

Diskzy finds Firefox and the files listed here, shows the size of each one, and moves them to the Trash together. Files that another app also uses are left alone.
