How to completely uninstall Google Chrome on Mac

Dragging Chrome to the Trash removes the app itself, but its support files, caches and settings stay on your Mac. Here is where they are and how to remove all of them.

Good to know

Your profiles (bookmarks, history, saved passwords, extensions) are in ~/Library/Application Support/Google/Chrome, and the cache is in ~/Library/Caches/Google/Chrome. Chrome also installs Google's updater with launch agents, which other Google apps on your Mac may share.

Before you start

Turn on sync in Chrome or export your bookmarks and passwords first if you want to keep them. If you use other Google apps, leave the updater files in place.

Bundle identifier: com.google.Chrome

Remove Chrome by hand

  1. Quit Chrome. If it has a menu bar icon or runs in the background, quit that too.
  2. Open the Applications folder and drag Chrome to the Trash.
  3. In Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder (Shift-Command-G), paste each location below, and move what you find to the Trash. Not every location exists for every version.
  4. Empty the Trash, then restart your Mac so nothing from Chrome is left running.

The quick way

Diskzy finds Chrome and the files listed here, shows the size of each one, and moves them to the Trash together. Files that another app also uses are left alone.
