How to completely uninstall LibreOffice on Mac

Dragging LibreOffice to the Trash removes the app itself, but its support files, caches and settings stay on your Mac. Here is where they are and how to remove all of them.

Good to know

LibreOffice leaves one folder behind, ~/Library/Application Support/LibreOffice, which holds your user profile: settings, custom dictionaries, templates, autocorrect entries and installed extensions.

Before you start

Your documents are ordinary files wherever you saved them and are not affected. Copy the profile folder first if you have custom templates, dictionaries or macros you want to keep. Deleting only that folder is also the usual way to reset LibreOffice without uninstalling it.

Bundle identifier: org.libreoffice.script

Remove LibreOffice by hand

  1. Quit LibreOffice. If it has a menu bar icon or runs in the background, quit that too.
  2. Open the Applications folder and drag LibreOffice to the Trash.
  3. In Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder (Shift-Command-G), paste each location below, and move what you find to the Trash. Not every location exists for every version.
  4. Empty the Trash, then restart your Mac so nothing from LibreOffice is left running.

Where LibreOffice keeps its files

The quick way

Diskzy finds LibreOffice and the files listed here, shows the size of each one, and moves them to the Trash together. Files that another app also uses are left alone.
