How to completely uninstall Microsoft Outlook on Mac

Dragging Outlook to the Trash removes the app itself, but its support files, caches and settings stay on your Mac. Here is where they are and how to remove all of them.

Good to know

Outlook is sandboxed, with a container at ~/Library/Containers/com.microsoft.Outlook. Its mail profile is not there. It is in ~/Library/Group Containers/UBF8T346G9.Office, a folder Outlook shares with Word, Excel and PowerPoint, so this page does not list it for removal.

Before you start

Mail in Exchange, Microsoft 365, Outlook.com, Gmail and other IMAP accounts stays on the server. Anything stored only on this Mac, such as On My Computer folders or POP mail, does not: export it first with File > Export. Delete the Outlook folder inside the Office group container only if you no longer need that local data, and leave the rest of the group container alone if you still use other Office apps.

Bundle identifier: com.microsoft.Outlook

Remove Outlook by hand

  1. Quit Outlook. If it has a menu bar icon or runs in the background, quit that too.
  2. Open the Applications folder and drag Outlook to the Trash.
  3. In Finder, choose Go > Go to Folder (Shift-Command-G), paste each location below, and move what you find to the Trash. Not every location exists for every version.
  4. Empty the Trash, then restart your Mac so nothing from Outlook is left running.

The quick way

Diskzy finds Outlook and the files listed here, shows the size of each one, and moves them to the Trash together. Files that another app also uses are left alone.
